Sprinter New Generation trains tests in The Netherlands

Past 19th October the first trains of a total order comprising 118 trains, were delivered and presented in The Netherlands for the test and homologation period.

The number of passengers traveling by train in The Netherlands is growing. Therefore, NS invests over € 2,5 billion in new Sprinters, new Intercity trains, and in the modernisation of trains. The order of these 118 Sprinters from CAF is part of this large-scale investment program in order to maintain the Dutch level of sustainable mobility and accessibility.

Passengers will travel comfortably with the new Sprinters, that complies with following passenger wishes: a transparent, open, attractive and energy efficient train, fitted with WIFI, a toilet suitable for wheelchair users, socket outlets, USB-charging point, a location for bicycles and a level entry.

CAF Signalling technology

These trains are equipped with CAF Signalling technology, with Auriga OBS (ERTMS N1 and 2 on board) system wich integrates the Dutch national system ATB.

The first test and homologation processes were carried out in in February at CAF´s factory in Beasain. After these tests were completed, some more tests were done in The Velim railway test center, in the Czech Republic. Finally, the last homologation tests were carried out in October in The Netherlands. Once all the tests were done, the correspondent documentation was delivered for obtaining the commissioning authorization expected for the month of April.

If everything goes as predicted, passenger will be able to travel on this trains by the end of 2018.
